CAMBODIA DAY 1: PART 1, Getting there...

Off to Cambodia!

We traveled by mini bus from the airport to Koh Kong..
Approximate time: 5hours

My bus was really noisy.. for the first 2 hours?
Then everyone zonked out..

We stopped by for lunch!

Everyone had a first taste of the food.. Cambodia style!

Cheese!

After that we went around taking pictures..

Alright!
Back to the bus for another 3 hours..
Targeted time to reach about 5pm..

But about 3 plus 4.. one of the bus broke down..
The other two bus made a round about for the 'rescue'
Ian said that there were noises..
Then suddenly there were smoke coming out from the driver's seat!
They stopped and everyone evacuate!
I think the bus was beyond repair.. we had to pull the bus..
Using a rope we tied one bus to the other.. pulling the spoiled bus at 30km/h
We will take another 3 hours if we are going at that speed..
Plus there were up and down slope..
If ever the front bus stops, the spoiled bus will crash into the front bus..

We stopped by the nearest village..
Another car came to the rescue.. with a wooden pole..
All the Singaporeans had their doubts.. Me included..
How is it possible?
But they said they did it before so we prayed and set off..
The car pulled the bus from the front using just a wooden pole.. at about 80km/h

Some of the guys sat ON the car

There were couple of times during the up slope the pole gave way..
We all stopped and they tried fixing it and we are off again..
We did that a couple of times..
By the time we reach Koh Kong, it was already about 8pm?
We were all exhausted but glad at the same time that we made it..

THANK GOD.

We managed to find a place to stay as the hotels are all filled..
Thank God for bringing us there safely!

I just got back from Cambodia yesterday..
Thank God for speaking to me in this trip..
There are many MANY things that God has taught me..
I would like to share what I have learn..
And that I would also remember what I've learn and seen in this trip..
Before going straight into the 10 days at Cambodia..

I would like to start with how God even allowed me to go for this trip.

I remember when Ian first mentioned about going to Cambodia.. I was both excited and worried. Excited because I've not traveled in 8 years and this would be my first time traveling without my parents. All the fun and all filled my mind.. but God reminded me.. It's not just about fun.. If He opens the door for me to go, He has a purpose and I need to open not just my eyes but my heart to receive what He is going to teach me there..

At the same time, I was worried. I thought to myself. 'will my mum allow me to go?'

Some might think I'm out of my mind but yes I booked the air-ticket nevertheless with the thought that I haven asked my mum about it.

As the days draw nearer for our departure to Cambodia. I knew I had to ask my Mum soon. I had to ask my Mum even earlier as I needed to make a new passport.

About a month before the trip, there were countless of times I wanted to ask my Mum about the trip but I just didn't have the courage to.

About 3 weeks before the trip, I put a information slip on the table before I left for school and when I got back, I saw the paper torn into pieces. I was shocked, I cried before the Lord and ask Him to keep me strong and to have faith in Him

2 weeks before the trip I finally went to her room and asked her if I could go but she was too tired and she turned me away.

I asked her again on the last day.

She was very reluctant. She said from a bbq which was 2004 uth camp to going to Malaysia for church camp and now you want to go overseas? She said many other things and then said we'll talk about it the next day. I mentioned to her that I needed to make my passport. She thought I went ahead in making the new passport. I said I haven as I was waiting for her approval. Then she said, since you didn't then don't go. I stood there and I prayed again. After sometime of silence, she got out of the bed and went to her cabinet and took out my passport, she hesitated but eventually she signed on the paper and she allowed me to go.

PRAISE THE LORD!!

This was the first time I could anticipate going for a trip and it was very nice of my Mum, she helped me in my packing and passed me quite a bit of stuff for the trip.

Another thing I would like to thank God for is making and collecting of the passport.

I made my passport on Monday and was able to collect it on Friday but I had school so I didn't and soon found out that Saturday can only be collected by appointment basis and I was suppose to give my passport number and expiry date to Lilis by Saturday. Thank God I could give it to her on Monday and there were available slots in collecting my passport on Monday. THANK GOD.

My parents woke up early in the morning and sent me to the airport. I could see smiles on their faces when they saw the whole group of people going and many talked to them too.

Thank God for opening the door and making a way for me to go for this trip..

Psalms 46-Be Still

1) Recognize that God permits time of trouble

God allows everything to happen.
You will only be ready if you know who allowed it

When something happens, our natural reaction is 'its a spiritual attack'
Yes Satan is at work, in tempting, in casting worries, sorrows etc.. but it is a test given by God

When trials happens, God's plan is fulfilled. we..
1) know exactly why it happened
2) learn lessons from it
3) never know why it happens but still fulfill His purpose

Why trials happen?
1) Bring us back to God as we might have taken our eyes off Him
2) Test us and have greater faith in Him

Even though we may or may not understand why He allowed certain things to happen, we must never question His Sovereignty.
He knows best. We only see things at a micro level, but He see things at a macro level. He sees the future and goes way beyond.

Romans 8:28 'All things work together for good, to them who love God and are called according to His purpose.'

When Satan wanted to tempt Job, God is the one who allowed it.
Nothing happens without God's permission.

2) Recognize God's purpose for time of trouble

Our eyes must be fixed on Jesus.

In war, the flag must never fall to the ground. Similarly, we should hold the flag and not drop it..

James 1:3-4 'For when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow.
So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be strong in character and ready for anything.

Tough times reveals who we really are, our character and our faith in Him.
It makes us stronger and have greater faith

His strength is made perfect in our weakness. When we are weak we turn away from our own abilities and seek Him, we are strong in the Lord.

Genesis 1:26 we are made in the image of God. To reflect Him through our lives.

Through trials, when we are tested and able to react in a way that's honorable to Him, people especially unsaved love ones see our lives and see Christ.
And they are one step closer to salvation

3) Recognize God's presence in times of trouble

PRAYER connects us with God
God is with you, who can be against you?
Matt 28:20 'He is with us always!'

Thank God I went for UT revision for Sports Coaching & Sports Prescription..
Cause 80% of what was revised came out..

We woke up at 545am on Saturday and went to Cat's place..

Marshmallow Temptation

Question: What tempts you?
And are you going to give in to that temptation?

We have our own personal struggles and temptation.
The devil tempts us in many ways,
And he makes it so attractive like the marshmallow with chocolate sauce topping.
It's tough to resist, but are we going to give in to it?
Or are we going to be like that girl who pushed the plate away,
To flee from the temptation?

At the end, we will receive our reward--> 'sandwich marshmallow'
If we press on and wait upon Him.
Till He come again, we need to flee from every temptation and wait on the Lord.

Are you going to fulfilling the need right then or wait for something that is better?

Thank GOD today's FYP presentation went well! :))

I was of course glad that FYP 1 is finally over
I can finally take a break from all the research, report, poster, presentation etc
But I wasn't really in the celebrating mood

One of my team mate wasn't there at the presentation
I heard that his dad was admitted to ICU on Saturday
Texted him and found out that his dad passed away yesterday due to cardiac arrest
He turns 39 today
A few of us decided to head down to the wake
In the bus on the way to the wake
I was in tears
God reminded me

The heart is the one that keeps the body alive
Because it transport blood and oxygen to the rest of the body
God is the one that keeps that heart beating
He gives life and He can take it away too
Why will He take a life away?
That's not a question that we can answer
But we can definitely trust that He knows best
He is sovereign, all knowing God
That's all that matters

A great reminder for me
I want to take every opportunity He gives me to share the Gospel
Pass a tract to someone
Or simply reflecting Jesus in my life

Dear God, please save our love ones in your time. Help us to do what we can to reach out to them and leave the rest to You. Save especially my family Lord. Help me to see people as how You see them. Help me to have compassion and love for them. In Jesus Name, Amen.

Back and forth this person went.
As the man approached he could see that there were hundreds of starfish
Stranded on the sand as the result of the natural action of the tide

The man was stuck by the the apparent futility of the task.
There were far too many starfish.
Many of them were sure to perish.
As he approached the person continued the task of picking up starfish one by one
And throwing them into the surf.

As he came up to the person he said, "You must be crazy.
There are thousands of miles of beach covered with starfish.
You can't possibly make a difference."
The person looked at the man.
He then stooped down and pick up one more starfish and threw it back into the ocean.
He turned back to the man and said, "It sure made a difference to that one!"

Making a difference everyday

God can use anything to bring people back to Him
Be it unsaved or those who have fallen away
Every moment,
By actions, words, presence or simply our life
Let's reflect Christ in everything we do

Don't Fear Authentic Relationships

“But if we live in the light, as God is in the light, we can share fellowship with each other. Then the blood of Jesus, God’s Son, cleanses us from every sin. If we say we have no sin, we are fooling ourselves, and the truth is not in us” (1 John 1:7-8).

Authentic fellowship is not superficial, surface-level chit-chat. It’s genuine, heart-to-heart, sometimes gut-level sharing.

It happens when people get honest about who they are and what is happening in their lives. They share their hurts, reveal their feelings, confess their failures, disclose their doubts, admit their fears, acknowledge their weaknesses, and ask for help and prayer.

Authenticity is the exact opposite of what you find in many churches. Instead of an atmosphere of honesty and humility, there is pretending, role-playing, politicking, and superficial politeness, but shallow conversation.

People wear masks, keep their guard up, and act as if everything is rosy in their lives. These attitudes are the death of real friendship.

It’s only as we become open about our lives that we experience authentic fellowship. The Bible says, “If we live in the light, as God is in the light, we can share fellowship with each other . . . If we say we have no sin, we are fooling ourselves” (1 John 1:7-8).

The world thinks intimacy occurs in the dark, but God says it happens in the light. We tend to use darkness to hide our hurts, faults, fears, failures, and flaws. But in the light, we bring them all out into the open and admit who we really are.

Of course, being authentic requires both courage and humility. It means facing our fear of exposure, rejection, and being hurt again.

Why would anyone take such a risk?

Because it’s the only way to grow spiritually and be emotionally healthy. The Bible says, “Make this your common practice: Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you can live together whole and healed” (James 5:16).

He opened the door for me to go Church Camp!!!

Before I head to bed
I got to share what happened
And give all the glory to HIM

On Saturday night, I asked my mum whether I could go for camp
She was very reluctant
And when she realize that it's an overseas trip
She said NO

Today, the most unusual
Yet I know God definitely is the one who planned it all out

God used the most unexpected thing to help my mum and I to talk again
It was when she was cutting my dog's nails :)

I told my dad about the trip and he was actually okay with me going
I was hoping that he would help me in persuading my mum
But he fell sick and he had to rest

There we were sitting at the living room watching some charity show
But I wasn't really watching it
I was thinking of how to ask my mum again

The show ended
I went into her room soon after and waited for her

But I took a left turn instead.

Soon, I realize I was walking in circles,

I knew what I needed to do,

The Familiar Room

I found myself in this familiar room,
Packed with shelves of books.
Some are facts, most are fiction.
This particular book,
Has chapters with similar situations and endings too..
Sometimes, I would ask myself..
If someone would have done more for the character,
Maybe the ending would be different,
Or at least the content in this book would be different,
Different from the front few chapters.
But I realize,
We should do what we can to help the character,
But only the author of the book who is God Himself can change the heart of the character.

It has been a busy but really great two weeks..

Unhealthy but great time spent together especially during the last week of school.
At least some of us hope to get into the same class again next semester..

Goodbye 2008, Hello 2009!

I don't want to keep looking back at 2008..
Yes, awesome things happened.
God blessed us, God blessed me in many many ways..
But God is going to do GREATER things!

My family don't celebrate birthdays..
We don't even say happy birthday to each other.
But yesterday was my Dad's birthday..
And I really wanted to bake something for him.

So in the end I bought a blueberry tart..
Went home and found my Dad still awake at 11plus.
I dragged my Mum out and asked her to get the camera..
Light the candle and went in the room with a one sentence birthday song.
Simple yet was something already very surprising..
My Dad was super shock, then he was smiling all the way.
My Mum was smiling too..
Took like 2-3 pictures.

God is just so AWESOME~!

A group of us went down to KCP on Wednesday to set up for Sportlight..
I remember telling Chiawen that the weather was superb.
It was cooling & a little sunny.. :))
She mentioned that it didn't rain the past three days.
And it's gonna take a miracle not to rain for the whole week in this season..
I prayed. I'm sure we all did..
And God answered our prayers!
God gave us the best weather!
3 days without rain..
First day was sunny.. clear blue sky!
Second day I heard some prayed for clouds & there were really clouds covering the sun!
Third day was really sunny!
Though many of us were badly burnt..
I'm sure we all agree that it's definitely better than rain.

Thank God for..
Every single one who made this event possible!
All the particiapants who came.
Seeds sown in the hearts of the people.

Thank God for the many younger ones who came for Uth worship on Friday..
I'm excited to see what God's going to do in their life.
The other day, when Pastor CheeKeen asked the older Uths to stand up..
He said, 'these are the pioneers of the Uth ministry.
Very soon, many of them will be in the workforce..'
Then he asked the younger ones to stand up..
He said, 'The Future Of Uth Ministry.'
I was like, wow.. this is so exciting!! :))
And there's this burden in my heart..
To invest my life in theirs..
Most importantly, where God wants me to serve.
I will follow Him wherever He want me to go..

DEEPLY BLESSED and FULL OF THANKSGIVING

Once again, God has graciously opened the door for me to go for camp even when my mum knew that I was going to skip two days of school for that, she still allowed me to go.

Thank God for allowing people like Charmaine Pek, Ruth, Jean, Eleanor, Kimberly and so many others to be able to attend this camp.

Thank God for working in the hearts of people that though at first they didn't want to attend this camp, they came and were blessed by it.

Thank God for the salvation of Eshane and Oliver. And the 9 souls at East Coast Park.

Thank God for Ian, Ray, Pastor CheeKeen, Uncle Ivan, the worship team, the av team, the logistic team, the games team, the people who prepared the food, all the adult workers, all the big & small group leaders and everyone who made this possible.

Indeed, A CAMP LIKE NEVER BEFORE.
Because of God, Everything was just so right.

Even before the games, our hearts were already knitted together. Thank God for the sweet spirit and unity with one another. It really wasn't about winning, it's all about having fun and enjoying one another's company even with the mud and flour all over us.

Thank God for superb weather. Jeremy was telling us that the weather forecast states that it was suppose to be a thunderstorm. But it didnt rain. When Ian asked us to look up into the sky, I was just overwhelmed & speechless by the sight of it. Blue sky with clouds, the sun shining, not to cold nor hot weather. It was just so right. The amazing thing is that God held back the rain for 4 days. And when we break camp & were loading up the bus, big drops of water started falling down from the sky. I just went WOW. God is just so good.

Thank God for trials that we thought we lost a whole bag full of belongings and we prayed and God showed Himself faithful and we got it back.

The 7 messages was spot on. It was short, sweet and spoke right to our hearts. I learn many lessons especially the Wednesday morning's message. It was really what I needed. Tears of joy fell uncontrollable. I just want to live my life following Christ. Apart from Him, I'm nothing. But with Him, I'm everything. :)) Thank God for the revival He sent especially on Wednesday night. God was there.

I just want to take this time to thank God for my small group.

For Audrey. I thank God for you helping me out in this camp. Thank God He met with you in a very special way. You've been a tremendous blessing to me. Many uncertainties ahead but You know you can trust your God to walk you through it. Thank God for you.

For Bernice. I've been praying and I thank God for answered prayer. I know there were doubts but thank God He spoke and cleared all of it. Thank God you met Him there. God wants to use you. May you continue to use your talents that He has given you for His glory.

For Lynnshan. I'm so glad you met with Him and you want to live a life for Him. Your thanksgiving blessed my heart very much. Your honest sharing too. :)

For Priscilla. Though you've always been really quiet and shy. I thank God for you just being there and for the simple sharing. Thank God for your concern for people.

For Kimberly. You're such a dear sister to me. Your love for God amaze me and how much you just want to live for God. I'll be praying for you as you go back tomorrow. Hope to see you real soon.

Last week of school.
One more week to Uth camp.. :))

God is really good!
That day my Mum came telling me about thinking of going to Batam from 7-8dec..
I was told to go with them.
I took the opportunity to inform her about Uth camp.
Thank God she didn't insist me on going Batam with her..
In fact, I think they might not be going anymore.
And she didn't say no to camp either.
Keep praying..
I don't want to be complacent..
I know, God will open the door if He wants me to go for this camp.
Once again, same situation, same peace that God gave me..
Same great God that never change. :))

John did! A friend I met during the intervention programme.

Traveled around Singapore after BS..
Holland V, Clementi, Mustafa, Serangoon, Changi Airport, Clementi Fire station,
Hort Park, Henderson waves, Mount Faber & then home sweet home at 830am.

Stayed over at Audrey's place on Thursday & Friday night.
Had brunch with Matt & his family on Friday..
I guess it really hit us especially during the video in the auditorium.
But we're all good when we heard that he's booking out on Sunday night.. :))
Vibe was great! Lots of new comers!!
John came too. :))

My parents flight delayed.
So instead of 9plus.. its now at 250am..
Which means they'll prolly be really tired and not want to go out tomorrow..
And that gives me an urge of wanting to go for Sunday service!

Teresa, Matthew, Shuzhen, Audrey & I were standing outside Charm's house..
Waiting to give her a surprise when we found out she was not at home.
So we panic a little and immediately we heard the lift bell..
We turned around and there she was..
And we said, HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHARM!!
(you should see the look on her face. Hilarious!)
She got a shock of her life!! HURHUR.
It was really a great short period spending time with her. :D
Can't wait for you to finish your O's! Jiayous sis!!

God struck me with this verse just a few minutes ago..

Hebrews 13:8 'Jesus Christ the same YESTERDAY, and TO DAY and FOR EVER.

This verse really woke me up..
Things, people, anything will definitely change no matter what happens..
But Jesus will always be the same..
Jesus will always be here for me and you too!
